Our Mission

OB Consult's mission is to make Ob-Gyn care for women safer, while at the same time reducing professional liability risk for Ob-Gyns.

How We Got Here

OB Consult is a newly created joint venture between NORCAL and Stevens & Lee. It was created to provide OB-specific safety and risk management services to Ob-Gyns, Ob-Gyn departments, hospitals, and other associated healthcare professionals.

We worked with healthcare lawyers, safety professionals, quality professionals, OB nurses, obstetricians, claims personnel, and others to identify the key areas of obstetrical risk and to create vetted tools and strategies to help reduce obstetrical professional liability risk for the obstetrical team and make obstetrical care safer for pregnant mothers across the country.

Using our research and data, we created an evidence-based obstetric-specific audit tool, which is used during our on-site evaluations of obstetrical departments and practices. That tool focuses on the main drivers of adverse outcomes and risk – all based on the evidence. In addition, we have created evidence-based safety and risk management tools to impact the areas of risk which have been identified. 

When done correctly, OB safety and risk management strategies can enhance safety and reduce frequency and severity of claims.
